HELAMBU
LANGTANG VILLLAGE TREK (HOMESTAY) / NPL 11 |
The Langtang region
is easily accessible from Kathmandu. Langtang area in itself
is a good choice for those with limited time. In one week to
ten days, one can visit Langtang area for trekking. The
Himalayan views overall are not quite as spectacular as in
the Annapurna or Everest areas, but they remain
unforgettably beautiful. In addition, the trails are less
crowded and the people are friendly. Langtang National Park
is crossed with hiking and trekking paths and mountaineering
trails allowing visitors unparalleled accessibility. You
will often see musk deer (Moschus chrysogaster) and
Himalayan tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus), Himalayan black beer
(selenarctos thibetanus), snow leopard (panthera uncia),
wild god (alpines), ghoral (Nemorhedus goral) serow (capricornis
sumantrenis) and more than 250 species of birds. The park is
also renowned for its population of red panda (Ailurus
fulgens)
A little further up the valley is Sing Gompa, where we stop
overnight and sample the local yak cheese. We pass through
Nubamatang, nestled in a hidden valley, on our way up to
view the glaciers, which mark the gateway into Tibet.
Backtracking, we travel through Syabru and Sing Gompa to a
high plateau, where the sacred lake Gosainkund is located.
Crossing the Kyanjing Gompa (3900 m), we continue trek,
leaving the Langtang region behind us as we reach Syafrubesi,
our trek comes to end.

Day
01: |
Arrival in Kathmandu (1340 m).
Arrive in Kathmandu. Meet/assist by
our representative at the airport
and transfer to hotel. On reaching,
short briefing on day to day program
by our tour guide. Rest of the day
is in leisure.

Day 02: |
Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.
After breakfast, proceed for
sightseeing tour with our guide.
Normally, we start sightseeing tours
at 9 in the morning. Visit Kathmandu
Durbar Square, Swayambhunath and
Patan City. Kathmandu Durbar Square,
or Basantapur Durbar Square is the
plaza in front of the old royal
palace from 16th century and is one
of three Durbar Squares in the
Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of
which are UNESCO World Heritage
Sites. The Durbar square is
surrounded by spectacular
architecture and vividly showcases
the skills of the Newari artists and
craftsmen over several centuries.
Swayambhunath is an ancient
religious complex atop a hill in the
Kathmandu Valley, west ofKathmandu
city. It is also known as the Monkey
Temple as there are holy monkeys
living in parts of the temple in the
north-west. Later, you will be
escorted to Patan City for
sightseeing tour. Patan is also
known as city of fine art, is one of
the major cities of Nepal and is
best known for its rich cultural
heritage, particularly its tradition
of arts and crafts. Return to the
hotel.

Day 03: |
Drive Kathmandu - Melamchi Bazar
(846 m).
You drive (5 hours approx.) along
well paved road up to Zero Kilo and
then you travel through gravel and
bumpy path. This is a picturesque
journey as you will be surrounded by
green hills, terraces, streams,
human settlement respectively from
place to place. Melamchi Pul Bazaar,
at the bank of Melamchi River is a
small town where people from
surrounded villages come to buy
commodities as there are numerous
shops, lodges and few small hotels.

Day 04: |
Trek Melamchi Bazar Sermathang
(2590 m).
The trail gradually ascends all the
way to Shermathang through meadows
ad cultivated fields. On the way,
you come across several old villages
with their own particular tradition.
Walking this day is quite pleasant
with views of green hills and
interaction with local and friendly
people. There you can see Jugal
Himal range at the north face of
Shermathang village.

Day 05:

Trek Sermathang Tarkegyang (2743
m).
This day the trail is quite easier
through flat land with beautiful
forests on the way. You trek on
crossing some small streams on the
way. There is situated a beautiful
village on the half way to
Tarkeghyang. To add your joy,
Tarkeghyang is another pretty Sherpa
village where you can visit many
ancient monasteries. Tarkeghyang,
also known as Helambu is named after
the Helmu caste. The Sherpa people
living here originally belong to
Helmu caste.

Rest day, visit Ama Yangri.

Trek Tarkegyang - Melamchi Gyang
(2640 m).
The early part of the trek descends
until you cross the stream named as
Melamchi. Now you trek steep up to
Melamchi Gaon passing through Sherpa
settlements such as Nakotegaon which
you come across before crossing
Melamchi Bridge. After you cross
this Iron Bridge and trek for steep
up trail for nearly two hours you
reach Melamchi Gaon. There is a
monastery, a school, chorten, prayer
flags fluttering in the sky and few
guest houses and lodges. In terms of
scenery is green hill which has
surrounded this village. Most
notably, there is an ancient cave
with legendry story that Guru
Ringboche once took shelter here.

Day 08: |
Trek Melamchi Gyang Tharepati
(3690 m)
The first part of the trails ascends
up to Tharepati the rhododendron
forests until Thearepati. Before you
reach Tharepati, a group of herders'
huts at 3579m, you cross a stream
after coming through rhododendron,
oak and juniper forests.

Day 09: |
Trek Tharepati Phedi (3630 m).
This day you will walk through
Rhododendron (National Flower of
Nepal) and Pine Forest crossing some
small streams. Arrive Ghopte for
lunch and then start ascent to Phedi
above treeline. After 5 hours of
walk, you will reach to Phedi.

Day 10:

Trek Phedi - Lourabinayak pass
Goshaikunda (4350 m)
Trekking starts around 8 am after
breakfast. Today you will have to
trek for 5 hours approx. through
Rhododendron forest. Gosainkunda
lake is a holy place for both Hindus
and Buddhist people. According to
legend God Shiva has created this
high altitude lake. The Lake has a
black rock in the middle, said to be
head of God Shiva. Lots of people
come here to worship and bathe
during the full moon festival each
August. It said that there are 108
holy kundas (small lakes) around,
like Saraswati Kunda, Surya Kunda,
Bhairav Kunda, Ganesh Kunda, Parvati
Kunda and more.

Day 11: |
Trek Goshakunda - Shing Gompa (3250
m).
We trek from Gosainkunda to Sing
Gompa (3250m.). Our trail descends
all the way to Sing Gompa passing
Lauribanayak. We would have
magnificent mountain views along the
trail. We would walk through the
jungles while going to Singh Gompa.

Day 12: |
Trek Shing Gompa Tamang Village.
This day you continue following the
path to Tamang Village. After 5
hours approx of walking, a typical
tamang village comes in front of
you. Tamang is an indigenous and
ethnic group of Nepal having their
own language and culture. You may
get an opportunity to learn about
Tamang Culture and society.

Day 13: |
Trek Thulo Syabru besi - Lama Hotel
(2410 m)
After breakfast, starts trek towards
Lama Hotel. This day you will have
to walk 7 hours approx. through
jungle and local villages.

Day 14: |
Trek Lama Hotel Langtang (3670 m,
5 hrs approx)
As you continue climbing you get
occasional glimpses of Langtang
Lirung (7245 m) between the trees.
At Ghore Tabela (3000 m) the trail
emerges from the forest. Once there
was a Tibetan resettlement project
here, but now there is a Nepalese
army post though it has no permanent
inhabited. The trail continues to
climb gently and the valley widens,
passing a few temporary settlements
used by herders who bring their
livestock to graze in the high
pastures during the summer months.
There is a monastery which you can
visit shortly before arriving at the
village of Langtang, the
headquarters of the Langtang
National Park. The houses of
Langtang and its neighboring
villages are of the flat roofed
Tibetan style, surrounded by stone
walls enclosing fields where
buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips
and barley are planted.

Day 15: |
Trek Langtang - Kyanjin Gompa (3900
m).
The trail climbs gradually through
small villages and yak pastures as
the valley opens out further and the
views become more extensive. After
crossing several small streams and
moraines, the trail reaches the
settlement at Kyangjin. There is a
small monastery and a government
operated cheese factory here. You
should arrive at Kyangjin by lunch
time allowing time to acclimatize
and explore the area. It is a
dramatic settling with snowy peaks
surrounding you in all directions.
You can enjoy panoramic views of
Kyangjin Ri (4750 m), Tsergo Ri
(5000 m), Ganja La (5160 m),
Langshisa ri (6427 m), Dorje
Lhakpa (6430 m), Naya Kang (5844 m),
Yala Peak (5500 m) and so on.

Day 16: |
Rest, walk up to Tserko Ri.
It is a day to explore the area. You
can visit the monastery and the
cheese factory, Tserko Ri, walk up
the moraine to see the spectacular
ice faces and tumbling glaciers of
Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin
Ri (4350 m), directly behind the
village, for a breath taking
panorama of the langtang peaks.

Day 17: |
Trek Kyanjien gompa - Lama Hotel
(2410 m)
From Kyangjin Gompa, you retrace
your steps, following the Langtang
Khola to Langtang village and on to
Ghore Tabela. After lunch, you
continue the steep descend to Lama
Hotel. It takes 5 hours approx. of
walk.

Day 18: |
Trek Lama Hotel - Syabru besi (1400
m).
You continue your steps part of the
way to Thulo Syabru, but it branches
off to the left up a steep path
through forest to when suddenly a
view of Syabru and its extensive
area of terraced fields become
visible. An undulating path brings
you to this fascinating village
where each house is set above its
neighbor, in a long line up to the
very crest of the ridge. Its a
great place to wander about,
observing the Tamang way of life,
admiring the beautifully carved
wooden windows or simply relaxing in
the sun.

Day 19: |
Drive Syabru besi - Kathmandu by
bus.
After breakfast drive back to
Kathmandu. On reaching, check in to
the hotel. Rest of the day is in
leisure for personal activities.

Day 20: |
Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.
Visit Pashupatinath, Boudhanath &
Bhaktapur Durbar Square.
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the
most significant Hindu temples of
Lord Shiva in the world, located on
the banks of the Bagmati River in
the eastern part of Kathmandu. It is
the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu.
It is not known for certain when
Pashupatinath Temple was founded.
But according to holy books, the
deity here gained great fame there
as Pashupati, the Lord of the
Animals. Pashupatinath Temple's
existence dates back to 400 A.D.
Boudhanath is one of the holiest
Buddhist sites in Kathmandu. Located
about 11 km from the center and
northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu,
the stupa's massive mandala makes it
one of the largest spherical stupas
in Nepal. Bhaktapur which literally
means a city of devotees is the
oldest city of Nepal. The Bhaktapur
Durbar Square is located in the
current town of Bhaktapur, which
lies 13 km east of Kathmandu. While
the complex consists of at least
four distinct square (Durbar Square,
Taumadhi Square, Dattatreya Square
and Pottery Square) [1], the whole
are is informally known as the
Bhakapur Durbar Square, and is a
highly visited site in the Kathmandu
Valley.

Departure.
After breakfast, you will be
transferred to the airport for
