Trek / NPL –
31 |
Dhaulagiri
Trekking is one of the most popular and Adventures
trek in Nepal and Dhaulagiri circuit trek is the
most challenging trekking as well in this region.
Dhaulagiri is the sixth highest mountain in the
world and we organize this trip in Camping Style as
still there is not good accommodation and food
available in this adventure route. No doubt, we will
have the most exciting experience from the trekking
and be enchanted with the scenes of the area.
Dhaulagiri Base Camp Trek Starts from Kathmandu to
Beni by bus, from Beni, we set our trekking on feet.
In between, we happen to cross many cultivated
fields, forests and villages, where various ethnic
groups reside, namely, Gurungs, Chhetris, and Magars
and after few days of trekking, we reach at Italian
base camp, from where we will see the exciting views
of Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV& V. we will have a rest
for few days for acclimatize with the altitude.
Once we are ready, we
head on to Dhaulagiri north base camp, and continue
our trek to the French pass [5,240 m] and Thapa pass
[5,155 m]. In between we can encounter semi-wild yak
herds, mountain sheep or the elusive snow leopard
etc and we also can see the views of Mt. Dhaulagiri,
Throng peak, Annapurna and Kali Gandaki River; the
world deepest gorge.
Subsequently, we descend down to Marpha, a popular
city of Mustang district, which is situated between
majestic mountain of Annapurna, Nilgiri and
Machhapuchhare, and then either we trek to Jomsom
and fly to Pokhara or we follow the classic
Annapurna Circuit Trail and reach at Tatopani
[hot-water in Nepali], where we can have a bath as
well. From Tatopani, we ascend to Ghorepani and down
to Pokhara and then finally back to Kathmandu. |

on the way. |
|
Day 05:
|
Trek Darbang – Tokam
Crossing the suspension bridge to
the right bank, pass the Tributary
Rectum khola to your left as you go
to the right through the hamlet of
Darbang. Follow the right bank path
along the river at the base of stone
cliffs to Phedi (1100m) with its two
teahouses. Just beyond the Phedi,
cross the Dang khola, which flows
from the left, and begin to climb a
ridge on the opposite bank? Climbing
up a steep hill you will enter a
mountainside on the Myagdi Khola
side from the pine-covered ridge
path to Dharapani, a heavily
populated village. Once again climb
a steep slope after which you
descend a mountain path and you will
reach to Tokam. |
|
Day 06: |
Trek Tokam – Muri
From Takum to go to Muri you will
follow the stone-welled path a short
way beyond Phalli Gaun and enter the
terraced fields to the right and
cross the Dhara khola via a
suspension bridge. If it is the dry
season, descend the valley next to
the school, walk to the opposite
bank, and climb the steep hill for a
short cut. The main path ascends the
mountainside from the suspension
bridge, passes below the village of
Dhara and goes through a hamlet to
an up and down mountain path to join
with the shortcut described above.
Though this is the long way the path
is better. Follow the mountain path
and skrit around the ridge, emerging
once again to the right bank of the
Myagdi khola. The mountain path
continues, winding uphill, and when
you skirt around a ridge, a vista of
Dhaulagiri 1 (8167m) and Gurja Himal
(7193m) opens up. Reach the large
village of Muri where the houses of
the Magar clan closely together. |
|
Day 07:
|
Trek Muri – Bagar
Descend a gentle slope, and cross a
rocky stream to Dhora khola. Here
you will cross the river and climb
to the right up the mountainside to
Ghorban dhara. View from this pass
is excellent, for the first time you
can see Ghustung south (6465m).
Follow the right bank path past
Naura where you begin to ascend the
mountainside. After climbing for a
short while, take a path that
traverses the steep grass-covered
hill. Climbing after a while you
enter a traverse to the right, here
you must also be beware of falling
into the gorge of the Myagdi khola.
Soon you descend through a forested
area, and reach to Bagar (2080).
|
|
Day 08: |
Trek Bagar – Doban
From Boghara the trail proceeds,
leaving the fascinating villages.
The trail becomes increasingly
challenging. Walking some hours you
will reach to Doban. |
|
Day 09: |
Trek Doban - Chariban |
|
Day 10:
|
Trek Chariban - Italy Base Camp |
|
Day 11: |
Trek Italy Base Camp - Glacier
Camp
Today is a short walk although
essential for acclimatization
process, unlike most other
itineraries we believe in having two
extra nights between Italian base
camp and main Dhaulagiri base camp
(otherwise going from 3,660m to
4,740m will result in AMS and
possibly worse). From Italian base
camp the trail descends steeply
through the lateral moraine to gain
the glacier, it is likely that we
will fix a rope here mainly to help
the porters. One crosses the glacier
and comes off the moraine on the
left side to enter the Chonbarden
gorge. Walk along talus in the
Chonbarden gorge to the snout of the
Chonbarden glacier. The glacier is
covered in moraine at this point and
the trail follows a pressure ridge
to Glacier camp. |

Day 12: |
Free day in Glacier Camp |
|
Day 13: |
Trek Glacier Camp - Dhaulagiri
Base Camp
There is a rough trail along the
glacier marked by cairns to
Dhaulagiri base camp. From the camp
one can see Dhaulagiri I and Little
Eiger, further to the west lies
Dhaulagiri II (7,751m) and IV
(7,618m). In season there are likely
to be many expeditions on the
moraine strip at base camp, one can
also the start of the climbing route
above the icefall descending from
the col between Dhaulagiri and
Tukuche Peak. |
